On bagging two songs in Shivaay, the singer-composer explains how she got Shivaay through Irrfan (Khan). “He really liked my song Panchi ho javan, which was my first single. Through someone he invited me and I flew down from Delhi to Mumbai. I performed that night for him and his friends. I didn’t know who else was present at the party. After few days I got a call from Ajay Degvn’s office saying they had heard me at the party. I went there and after a few meetings I bagged the project.”
Ajay Devgn was very involved with the process of the composition of the songs. The brief was given to the composer by Ajay Devgn himself. “I visited his place and he told me couple of things. He told me he wants a song that expresses universal bond and not a specific bond of father-daughter or brother-sister. He told me that the song needs to have a crux of trust. Providing me and example of Yug, his son, he said that his son climbs up the walls and any place in his access. Once he sees me around, he jumps from there thinking that his dad will save him whatsoever. That’s how we started developing the song. I spoke to my lyricists and I developed the melody and exchanged few ideas and finally Raatein happened,” avers Jasleen.
The composer was not supposed to sing the song Raatein. They had already tried a few male singers for this song. “I think the team got used to my voice from the scratch when I submitted my composition. They told me to sing the song and I agreed,” adds the singer.
Jasleen maintains that Ajay Devgn had given her full liberty to work on the music. Royal says, “He was very open to new sounds. I had thought that big stars have fixed formulas for the song, but he told me to come up with something that I really liked. He gave me inputs according to the visuals and videos he had in mind. It was a collaborative effort which was very peaceful and smooth. It was nice working with him. There was no stress. He was very accommodating and clear with his briefs. If he likes it, he locks it there and then. There is no back and forth. He is instinctive and says lets go ahead with it.”
Throwing light on her second track in Shivaay she says, “The other song is a fully flipped version of this track. It’s completely a 360-degree-turn version and he (Ajay) is going to do a lot of stuff in that song. It’s a surprise.”
Talk shifts to her other upcoming projects post Shivaay. “I have worked for the movie Haramkhor which is currently stuck at the Censor Board. Hopefully, it will come out soon. The next is Ghoomketu by Phantom productions. Both are Nawazuddin starrers and as a matter of fact I got Shivaay and Baar Baar Dekho after these two movies.”
