Radio Ga-ga

Amit Mishra

Playback singer Amit Mishra talks to Sayali Parab about his latest release the Radio song from Salman Khan’s Tubelight

Amit Mishra is still turning cartwheels. “Singing for Salman Khan is great since he is a megastar. I was excited even before the song released,” he says.

On his fun-filled briefing sessions with Pritam, Mishra says, “Pritamda told me it was a happy and a celebration song. And when Pritamda gives instructions, it’s fun. Studio mein bahut hasi mazak hota hai. While recording, I was told to keep the track happy. We don’t get to see the video at the start but, still, we tried our best and it was up to the mark. I was briefed on the tune, style of the song, and told that it needed to have a desi tadka.”

Overwhelmed by the response to the Radio song, the young singer says excitedly, “I am getting messages, calls and people are texting me on social media platforms. People in the industry have also been appreciative since my songs Manma emotion, Sau tarah ke and Bulleya are of different genres. This fourth song is of a totally different genre, it is an indie and peppy kind of song. So the industry is impressed because of the vocals and other things too,” he smiles.

On the technicalities, Mishra points out that it is very important that the audio match the energy level of the video. “During the final recording, we saw Salman’s expressions. He is very energetic. We also had to see how much he opens his mouth and many other such things so that the song syncs with the video properly.”

He adds, “It’s a fun song with many dancers and Salman sir is leading it, so matching that energy I would say… The same thing happened with me in Manma emotion. What happens is the actors are brilliant and when we see the video, we feel we haven’t given the audio enough energy.  Now I am happy with the outcome and the reviews are fantastic.”

On the criteria he uses to decide whether or not to go ahead with a song, Mishra reveals, “Earlier, I was not able to take decisions and had to sing what came my way since I was new to the industry. Now my team and I have set parameters because the audience is now connecting with me. I have started working on lyrics since they have a larger reach. About working with big names and movies, they are big because of their inspiring music. Like Bulleya… when I visit colleges, the students go crazy about a few lines. So, lyrics are definitely one of the parameters that I use.”

Without saying too much, Mishra says he has a big release coming up. Apart from that, he will also be releasing a single. “I am coming up with a single titled Adhuri kahaani, which I had done a long time ago with my fellow musicians.”
