Between hardcore realistic movies and intense dramas, we are graced with a breath of fresh air by Divya Khosla Kumar’s latest venture Bulbul. This sweet, short film is one of its kind and stands out from the complicated content on the world wide web right now.
Talking about a beautiful, pure soul who has a zest for life, Bulbul takes us through a time in its titular character’s life where she is trying her best to convince the man she loves, not to marry someone else.
From her quirky antics to her innocent smile, Divya Khosla Kumar wins your heart as Bulbul. The opening scene, where she runs away from the traffic policeman and when she daydreams about dancing with the man of her dreams, are some of the shots where director Ashish Panda has wonderfully mixed her sorrow with light-hearted situations.
As for the lady herself, Kumar brings the character to life with her various looks and disguises. Her innate sweetness makes you fall in love with her, whether she is making you chuckle with her eccentricities or touching your heart with her sorrow.
All in all, Bulbul is a tasteful short film that is beautifully shot against a scenic Shimla backdrop and crisply edited. With the perfect addition of the song Tere bin o saajana, the film, which also features Shiv Pandit, Elli Avram and Anang Desai and many other supporting actors, is guaranteed to leave you with a smile.
