The year 2016 will see several new faces making their debut on the silver screen. Hopefully, they will succeed in winning the hearts of movie-goers. Box Office India wishes each one of them the very best of luck.
Sayesha: Grand-niece of veteran actors Dilip Kumar and Saira Banu, Sayesha (Saigal) made her debut in the Telugu film industry in 2015 with the film Akhil: The Power Of Jua. Sayesha will be making her Bollywood debut opposite Ajay Devgn in his upcoming directorial venture Shivaay. The film will release during Diwali 2016.
Pooja Hegde: She was crowned second runner-up at the Miss Universe India 2010, before going on to make her acting debut in Tamil film Mugamoodi in 2012. She then ventured into the Telugu industry with films Oka Laila Kosam and Mukunda in 2014. Hegde will be making her Hindi film debut opposite Hrithik Roshan in Ashutosh Gowariker’s Mohenjo Daro, which will release on August 12, 2016.
Harshvardhan Kapoor: Son of actor Anil Kapoor and brother of actress Sonam Kapoor, Harshvardhan had assisted Anurag Kashyap in Bombay Velvet. Kapoor junior will be making his acting debut in Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s love story Mirzya, which is set to hit screens on May 13.
Fatima Shaikh: She was seen back in 1997 as a child actor when she played Kamal Haasan’s daughter in Chachi 420. Shaikh is all set to make her debut in Nitesh Tiwari’s directorial Dangal, where she will play Aamir Khan’s daughter. Dangal is based on Mahavir Singh Phogat, who taught wrestling to his daughters Babita Kumari and Geeta Phogat. The film is set for a Christmas release.
Sanya Malhotra: Born and raised in Delhi, Sanya is a trained ballet dancer. Malhotra will be making her debut as Aamir Khan’s daughter in Dangal. The film is based on former wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat, who trained his two daughters as wrestlers.
Mahira Khan: The famous Pakistani actress will be seen making her Bollywood debut opposite Shah Rukh Khan in director Rahul Dholakia’s Raees. Having worked in Pakistani films like like Bol and Bin Roye and the famous television series like Hamsafar, the actress will be playing SRK’s wife in Raees. The film is to release on Eid.
Diljit Dosanjh: Punjabi singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh will be making his debut to Bollywood with Abhishek Chaubey’s Udta Punjab. Dosanjh, who has earlier sung in many Bollywood films, will be playing the role of a policeman in the film. Udta Punjab stars Kareena Kapoor Khan, Alia Bhatt and Shahid Kapoor, and is based on the growing drug addiction problem among youngsters in Punjab. The film will release on June 17.
Saiyami Kher: Granddaughter of noted actress Usha Kiran and niece of Tanvi Azmi, Saiyami Kher will be making her Hindi film debut along with Harshvardhan Kapoor in, Mirzya, directed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra. Kher made her debut in the Telugu film industry with the film Rey, and has also been a popular Kingfisher model.
Raai Laxmi: A well-known face down South with a successful career in the Malayalam, Telugu, Kannada and Tamil film industries, Laxmi will make her Hindi film debut with Deepak Shivdasani’s Julie 2. She will also be seen in a very special appearance in AR Murugadoss’s Akira, which toplines Sonakshi Sinha.
Shriya Pilgaonkar: Along with other star kids this year, Sachin and Supriya Pilgaonkar’s daughter Shriya Pilgaonkar will also make her debut in the Hindi film industry. Pilgaonkar junior is active on the theatre circuit and has also directed a few short films. She made her acting debut in 2013 with her father’s Marathi production Ekulti Ek. She will be seen in Maneesh Sharma’s FAN, starring Shah Rukh Khan.
Ritika Singh: Real-life boxer Ritika Singh will be seen in the bilingual sports drama Saala Khadoos. Directed by Sudha Kongara, the film features R Madhavan in the lead role as a boxing coach. Singh bagged the role after she auditioned with 100 other boxers. She is a National-level kick boxer, has a black belt in karate and is familiar with mixed martial arts as well.
Mawra Hocane: A popular actress in Pakistan, having worked in television shows like Aahista Aahista, Ik Tamanna Lahasil Si and Nikhar Gaye Gulab Sare, Hocane will make her Bollywood debut this year in the musical love story Sanam Teri Kasam produced by Eros International and directed by Radhika Rao and Vinay Sapru.
Harshavardhan Rane: Harshavardhan made his acting debut in the Telugu film Thakita Thakita back in 2010. Since then, the actor has worked in many Telugu films like Naa Ishtam, Anaamika, Geethanjali and Bengal Tiger. Rane will be making his Bollywood debut with Eros International’s love story, Sanam Teri Kasam. The actor has also shot for John Abraham’s production house JA Entertainments’ Satra Ko Shaadi Hai, which is yet to release.
Sakshi Khanna: Vinod Khanna’s youngest son Sakshi Khanna will be making his acting debut in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s yet untitled production, which also marks the directorial debut of casting director Mukesh Chhabra. The film is said to be a romance-action musical drama.
Navneet Kaur Dhillon: Miss India 2013 Navneet Kaur Dhillon will make her Bollywood debut in Loveshhuda. The film also features Girish Kumar, who was last seen in Ramaiya Vastavaiya. The film also marks the directorial debut of ad filmmaker Vaibhav Misra. Dhillon will also make her Punjabi film debut in 2016, where she will be seen opposite Diljit Dosanjh in Tips Industries’ Ambarsariya.
Gaurav Arora: Model Gaurav Arora will be seen making his silver screen debut in Vishesh Films’ Love Games. Arora will also be seen in Raaz 4, another Vishesh Films release.
Shekhar Ravjiani: Music composer Shekhar Ravjiani, who was supposed to make his debut as lead with a meaty role in Bollywood, will now be seen facing the camera with a cameo in Ram Madhvani’s Neerja where he plays protagonist Neerja (Sonam Kapoor’s) love interest.
