Dubai International Film Festival

befikreDecember 7 – 14, 2016

Dubai, UAE

WHAT’S IT ALL ABOUT?

Since its inception in 2004, the Dubai International Film Festival (DIFF) has served as an influential platform for Arab filmmakers and talent at an international level, by spearheading the cinema movement in the region. Back for its 13th year, DIFF will take place from December 7 – 14, at Madinat Jumeirah. Every year, DIFF presents new and exciting cinema from the Arab world and beyond, introducing audiences to fresh new talent and original and distinctive filmmaking.

This year, DIFF strives to support the growth of Arab cinema, screening an impressive bill of more than 70 films from the region and joining forces with industry partners to promote local film with the #SupportArabCinema campaign launched during the festival.

DIFF will showcase the widest selection of the world’s most exciting, influential and visually astonishing features, shorts, documentaries and virtual reality titles from the hottest new filmmakers and the most prolific directors today. The festival will present over 140 films in total.

Dubai Film Connection

Submissions are now open for the Dubai Film Connection (DFC), the region’s co-production market for submissions for feature-length fiction and documentary projects in development by directors of Arab nationality or origin. The co-production market introduces Arab filmmakers to regional and international film backers and organisations.

Dubai Film Market

DFM is now the leading industry platform in the region and the gateway to one of the fastest growing film and TV markets in the world. It provides unprecedented access to decision makers from the Middle East, Asia and Africa. With an annual attendance of 2,500 executives from more than 65 countries, the market is the perfect place to forge new business collaborations.

DIFF Lifetime Achievement Award

This year, the recipient of the renowned Lifetime Achievement Award is Indian actress Rekha. The veteran actress will be presented with the award at the festival in recognition of her versatility and accredited contributions to Hindi cinema.

Befikre World Premiere

The World Premiere of Yash Raj Films’ Befikre will be held at the Madinat Jumeriah, home of DIFF on December 8.

This is the fourth film from Yash Raj Films to showcase at DIFF, having already premiered Kabul Express and Rocket Singh: Salesman of the Year and Ladies Vs Ricky Bahl earlier.

Lumiere Films

A selection of short films from the Lumière brothers, pioneers of cinema who have made some of the world’s first and most famous films using the Cinematograph, an invention that forever changed the way we see the world.

This outstanding exhibition, a compilation of 98 conserved and restored films in 4k, which Louis Lumière and his brother Auguste made between 1895 and 1905, will be presented by Thierry Frémaux, the General Director of the Cannes Film Festival, and the Institut Lumière in Lyon and one of the international film community’s most distinguished figures.
