With studios mulling over their strategic plans and road maps for the times ahead, the annual Film Bazaar organized by NFDC is gearing up for yet another power packed session.
Since it’s inception in 2007, the annual Film Bazaar has grown from strength to strength, attracting and inviting some of the movers and shakers of the global entertainment industry and being the launch ground for some of the most successful Inde Indian features and co-productions.
At this point it is imperative to mention that under the leadership of Nina Lath Gupta, Managing Director, NFDC, the Film Bazaar has become a revered platform not just within the country but also internationally, carving a unique place for itself in the global film market space.
Held in Goa at the Mariott Resort, the Film Bazaar this year will commence on the 20th and run up till the 24th of November.
Contrary to the belief by some, the Film Bazaar is far more than schmoozing and parties. Here’s a fabulous platform to be able to identify projects that pave the way for Indian cinema, be it through co-productions or choosing to distribute a particular project or projects. Sadly enough, the world outside knows about but it is yet to be fully capitalised on by members of the fraternity.
The Film Bazaar is far more than just a platform for buyers and sellers of content; it’s a platform of some fabulous talent, scripts, films and perhaps one of the finest content networking platforms in the country.
Films right from the much acclaimed and box office revered feature The Lunchbox and Dum Laga Ke Haisha to the acclaimed international Indian features such as Titli, Ship of Theseus, Qissa and Thithi have been presented at the Bazaar. Serving as a breakthrough platform to finding the right content at every stage.
What to Expect this year?
With each year, the who’s who in the international film circuit attending, the 2016 edition certainly with its list of attendees confirmed is impressive. Heavyweight film festival Artistic directors Charles Tesson (Cannes Critics Week), Marco Mueller (International Film Festival and Awards, Macao), noted international companies including The Weinstein company and Focus features, some top brass Sales agencies and Film Funds have all confirmed their presence.
While the Co-Production Market will have 18 projects being pitched, including those set to be directed by Renuka Shahane, Geetu Mohandas, Devashish Makhija, Eisha Marjara and Asad Hussain among others; The bazaar’s producers lab will assist producers navigate through the various aspects of filmmaking and production. Additionally the Bazaars viewing room offers Distributors, Sales agents and buyers the opportunity to see numerous unreleased features.
Furthermore, the Knowledge Series presented at the Bazaar in addition to being an engaging discussion on relevant topics by some serious doers, serves as a worthy information platform and if that were not enough, well there’s the various networking soirees each evening.
Well I am sure this reads as a overtly praise driven piece, but the truth is if you are clear on what you want to be able to achieve at the bazaar, chances are you will, given the platform and the extent to which it is painstakingly curated.
