Monali Thakur needs no introduction. She has earned applause for her songs Moh moh ke dhaage (Dum Laga Ke Haisha) and Sawar loon (Lootera), and has also won awards as Best Female Playback Singer. Thakur is enthralling us with her talent once again with the title track of Badrithnath Ki Dulhania. The song was also sung by Neha Kakkar, Ikka and Dev Negi and is packed with romance, dance and pop.
Monali says she recorded the song in just 10 minutes flat. On singing the title track, she remarks, “Tanishk Bagchi called me to record the song. I was just told that it’s a fun song and that it was for Alia Bhatt. The scale on which I sang this track is lower than the usual scale and I wasn’t sure if the voice would suit Alia Bhatt. Luckily, everybody felt it was just perfect. I recorded the song late at night and it was fun! The song had to be chirpy and quirky, keeping Alia in mind. The composition made it even more edgy.”
The singer says she loved the vibe of this peppy number. “I love the super-fun energy of the song. Alia Bhatt and Varun Dhawan look sizzling together. The choreography is just amazing. It’s a dance track and it’s a celebration song.”
Thakur says she believes the song lent itself to being crooned by multiple singers. “It’s not only one person expressing their thoughts, so it’s good that there are different voices in this song. Collaboration always makes it exciting for such peppy numbers.”
Thakur says she is very happy with the feedback she’s been receiving on social media. “However, credit goes to the entire team, not just me. People from the industry are also congratulating me.”
In keeping with the current trend of recreating old numbers, the chorus of Badrinath ki dulhania has been inspired by the classic song Chalat musafir moh liyo re. “It gives a different feel to the song and also the voice of the song changes. So why not recreate a song with a new melody? This song has been recreated wonderfully and that is why it worked well. I feel if you do justice to the song while recreating it, it will definitely work. I personally love to listen to evergreen numbers with new sound and melody.”
Thakur plans to come out with singles which, she claims, will help express herself and also flaunt her dancing skills. “I am collaborating with many people from around the world and I will be composing the songs. I don’t want to be a music composer in Bollywood but my singles will definitely have my compositions. I also miss movie sets as an actor and I hope I can soon act again.”
