Punjabi actor and singer Gippy Grewal has struck it big by crooning the Punjabi song Khulke dulke in Befikre. “Vishal-Shekhar approached me and told me there was this Punjabi number. They were clear that they wanted this song to be recorded in my voice as they felt it matched the scale and pitch of the song,” says Grewal.
He says Khulke dulke is exactly his type of song and hence a detailed brief was not required. “I did not require much preparation. They simply narrated the lyrics to me, the situation and the style of singing that was required. All I had to tell them was the scale required by me to sing the song. Otherwise, it was a smooth recording session.”
Grewal is overwhelmed to be a part of the Yash Raj banner and was very pleased to work with Aditya Chopra. “It was also great working with Vishal and Shekhar. We have known each for a long time and I am familiar with their work. Besides, I have sung for Bollywood movies previously but this was a great experience and I am very happy to record a song for such a big banner. It was a wonderful journey,” adds the singer.
On all the response he has been receiving for this Punjabi track, Grewal says, “I am getting good reviews for this song in Punjab. Also, I have been appreciated on Twitter and other social media platforms. My fans are supportive and they want me to sing more songs in Bollywood.”
On becoming typecast as a Punjabi singer, Grewal remarks, “Honestly, I am a music lover. Music is in my blood. I will sing anything that suits my singing style.”
Grewal is now set for another Bollywood project. “Next, I will feature as an actor in Bollywood. My new project is a movie named Lucknow Central with Farhan Akhtar. This movie will go on the floors in January 2017.”
