Guess Who?

We still can’t decide whether this was an incredibly gutsy move or an extremely foolish one.

There is no doubting this actor’s immense and versatile talent but it is also true that he isn’t really a superstar whose presence sets the box office on fire. Recently, he was approached for the second lead in this big project which is underway. And by big, we mean huge! Right from the banner to the film’s megastar hero, to the director’s last release – everything was as prestigious as it can get. Moreover, the actor in question had already co-starred with the superstar in a couple of massive blockbusters and the two share a great personal equation.

The director, therefore, thought it would be a mere formality to get the actor’s nod when he approached him, especially since there was a very fat fee involved too. So you can imagine his surprise when the actor promptly declined, saying he now wants to play only solo lead.

When the director was unable to convince the actor, the superstar also made an effort to get the actor on board, and guess what… albeit with great warmth and politeness, the actor said no to him too! Realising that chasing the actor was futile, the director scrapped the character altogether and reworked the script.

Going by the track record of the people involved in the project, there is little doubt that this film too will be a blockbuster. What is less certain, though, is whether the actor’s decision to give it a miss was correct or not.

Time, as always, will tell!
