Guess Who?

Now here’s something both NetFlix and Amazon might want to know about the filmmakers making web series for these global steaming services. It seems filmmakers who have got the green signal from these digital platforms are hyping their web series by paying large sums of money to the faces fronting their web series and then ‘leaking’ these details to the media, who are lapping it up.

All this is apparently aimed at impressing NetFlix and Amazon, and is a marketing gimmick to raise the profile of the web series in question. But with the astronomical sums involved, how can these filmmakers afford the gimmick, you may wonder.

Well, here’s the thing. While the filmmakers fork out massive sums of money to the big names, they are attempting to hire the character actors for peanuts. The bait being dangled in front of these hapless actors is the prospect of building their respective portfolios as the digital platform is the stuff of the future.

It seems our filmmakers didn’t account for the fact that our character actors are smarter than they thought as the latter are refusing these ‘cheap’ offers, saying they are paid way more by Indian television channels/production houses. Ooof!!!
