Those who don’t learn from the mistakes of others are condemned to repeat them. You may recall that a few weeks ago, on this very page, we had mentioned the growing legend of this jinxed promotional site – the frontage of a popular mall in a Mumbai suburb. No film in recent memory – a period spanning 3-4 years – has managed to achieve its pre-release hype here, except for Baahubali: The Conclusion.
Yes, it sounds totally irrational and there is no apparent logic to it at all, but the numbers of virtually all the films promoted there speak (rather sadly) for themselves. And guess what, post the publication of that particular piece, the curse seems to have gotten worse! In the course of the last 5-6 weeks only, we have seen a procession of films (most of them considered sure-shot successes) that have hired the site for their hoardings and then crashed with a massive thud.
Perhaps the many film associations should come together and contribute towards buying out that spot for good… and then let out the space for free to some other industries like FMCGs or cola companies! That expense will still be less than the weekly catastrophes we are witnessing. G
