Now this is called being stuck between a rock and a hard place. This film comes from a decent pedigree but is nonetheless a small film, running low on star power. It has announced its release date but is getting worried about the phenomenal buzz that the massive film releasing a week prior is generating.
It seems almost certain that the huge film will continue to have a very strong run in its second week, severely denting the quantity and quality of screens that the small film will get in its week of release.
The logical thing to do would be to postpone the release by a week, but here we run into problem number two. If they do that, they will have another HUGE film releasing the next week, meaning they will get only one week to muster collections. And for a small film like this, which typically grows with word-of-mouth, a longish run is necessary.
