Viacom18 unveiled the trailer of its first-ever 3D movie, Motu Patlu King of Kings. Present at the trailer launch were Sudhanshu Vats (Group CEO, Viacom18), Ajit Andhare (COO, Viacom18 Motion Pictures), Nina Elavia Jaipuria (EVP and Business head – Kids Cluster) and Ketan Mehta. Also present was Sushant Singh Rajput, who is cross-promoting his upcoming film M S Dhoni: The Untold Story.
Sudhanshu Vats spoke about the success of the Motu Paltu series, saying, “We are delighted to make our own 3D animation film. This is classic Make in India as they are our own popular characters, Motu and Paltu. The Motu and Patlu series has the highest viewership on television and in the digital space and now they are all ready to hit the big screen. You can see just how popular they are.”
Ajit Andhare pointed out that the characters are not just popular among kids but also their parents. He said, “Motu Patlu has come from the small screen to the big screen because of the love and affection the characters have got. I am sure that kids and their families are going to enjoy this experience. This movie is being pitched not only at kids but adults as well.”
Nina Elavia Jaipuria said the film has an outstanding quality of animation. “Motu Paltu is going from television to stardom and I want to wish the entire team all the best. I hope kids embrace these characters that we so love, and we hope cinema houses are filled with them and their laughter.”
According to Ketan Mehta, “This film was made from the scratch, that is, comic books to movie. Welcome to the world of Motu Paltu. The ability of the distribution house to take that risk in spite of the fact that Indian animation has not succeeded much, to believe in this product and to bring it on this scale is a big thing. I think this will be a turning point.”
Sushant Singh Rajput remembered his school days, saying, “Back in the day, I remember reading Lot Pot comics. My parents used to scold me but I continued reading them. Motlu Patlu are now making their debut to films and I wish them all the very best.”
