Hollywood Scares Bollywood?

Over the last few years, we’ve seen how Hollywood films have overpowered Hindi cinema from time to time. There have been many instances where an international movie has done much better business than the Bollywood films that released during the same week. The reason is the growing craze for Hollywood films, especially superhero franchises, and the result is even more competition for Hindi filmmakers.

The latest example of this is the upcoming venture of Balaji Motion Pictures and Anil Kapoor Film and Communication Network, Veere Di Wedding. The much-awaited movie, which will mark the comeback of Kareena Kapoor Khan after her pregnancy, was to release on May 18, but the release has been moved to June 1. The reason is that the Marvel superhero movie Deadpool 2 will release in India on the same day.

Producer Ekta Kapoor announced the news on Twitter, where she also revealed that June 1 is the birthday of her nephew Laksshya and it would be a good day for them to release the film on that day. While the reason is sweet, the looming threat of Hollywood cannot be ignored.
