Disco King Bappi Lahiri discusses his latest song, Pyaar ka test, and working in Hollywood

Bappi Lahiri aka ‘The Disco King’ has wooed the Indian audience for three decades with his classic cult songs. The iconic singer recently sang a retro type song for Running Shaadi.com. Currently in Los Angles, Lahiri reveals how he was approached for the project. “I was in the US for the Golden Globe Awards since my songs Moana and Come Closer were nominated. That’s when I got a call from Ronnie Lahiri, who said we have to do this song. Amit Roy, the director, wanted the song to be picturised on me. This song is fantastic if you see the teaser.”

Claiming the song will be a super hit, the veteran singer remarks, “The lyrics go like this…Hum tumhare better hai, Tum humari ho best, Tum humari chidiyan ho Hum tumhare hai nestPhir kyun lete hoTum pyaar ka itna test.”

Lahiri plays a DJ in the song, Pyaar ka test. “I recorded the song in India and the mixing was done here in LA. The song is pictursied completely in Los Angeles. This is a wedding song, in which I am a Disco King. It’s like I am singing on stage with two top American girls dancing with me.”

Saying he is thrilled with the outcome of the song, Lahiri adds, “Pyaar ka test is just excellent, thanks to Amit Roy, Ronnie Lahri and Shoojit Sircar. I would also like to thank the American production team for being so cooperative. The video has been filmed very well. It’s just outstanding.”

The veteran singer has also recorded a song for the movie, Badhrinath Ki Dulhania. “It is a recreated version of Tamma tamma from Thanedaar. I have recorded the song from Los Angeles and then sent it to the makers.”

Letting us in on a secret, Lahiri says he is collaborating with rapper Snoop Dogg. “I am in Los Angeles now and I have a lot of work going on Hollywood. I have now collaborated with Snoop Dogg and it’s a big thing and the song will release soon. Apart from that, I am travelling to London for some more projects. I also have a few Bollywood projects in the pipeline.”
