Kangana As ‘Warrior Queen’

The actress unveils poster of Manikarnika – The Queen of Jhansi at Varanasi’s Ghats

In the midst of holy chants and the serene Ghats of Varanasi, the Queen of Bollywood, Kangana Ranaut, announced her upcoming film Manikarnika – The Queen of Jhansi by unveiling a 20-foot-tall poster. The grand launch was met with a thunderous response as people could not stop praising Ranaut’s fierce look in the emblem logo of the film’s poster.

This one-of-a-kind event started with the introduction of the team, followed by a live performance by Shankar Mahadevan and Richa Sharma, who sang a beautiful poem Pratikar penned by Prasoon Joshi.

Then, Ranaut addressed the media and spoke about the title of the film. “The director of the film, Krish, has a different vision. He is one of the significant directors of our industry and he likes the sound of ‘Manikarnika’, because it gave him a certain cinematic liberty with the film. So the title helps to keep the authenticity of the facts.”

There was also a reason the film was announced in Varanasi. “I always wanted to visit Benaras, visit Kashi Vishwanath mandir, do the aarti and take a dip in the Ganga river. It all happened today with these superb arrangements. It is like a dream come true. But to be honest, I did this for myself. As I have a craze for these kind of things. Before hearing the script of Manikarnika – The Queen Of Jhansi, a few months ago, I told the team and Krish that if we are doing this, we will surely go to Kashi Vishwanath,” said Ranaut, during the event.

The actress also divulged details about her prep for the film. “When I asked what are Manikarnika’s strengths, Krish said horse riding. She was one of the finest horse riders. So I have started learning horse riding. There is plenty of other action in the film too as it is very important to the story, so I would be learning sword fighting later.”

The producer of the film Kamal Jain couldn’t stop raving about Ranaut. “She is one of the finest actresses we have in the country and no one else could fit this role better than Kangana,” he said.

While Ranaut waxed eloquent about the project and her director, she also gave credit to the writer of the film, KV Vijendra Prasad, who is also the writer on the recently released BaahubaliThe Conclusion. She said, “After I saw Baahubali: The Conclusion, when I met him, I touched his feet because in terms of story and screenplay, he is a legend. He is exceptional. I said, ‘Sir, I am so fortunate to work with you.’ And his Manikarnika – The Queen of Jhansi is no less than Baahubali. That was a great moment for me. The only difference is that this is a real character from the 19th century. This story has amazing action and drama and it has an even greater connect because this actually happened and we are trying to keep it authentic.”

The event concluded with the maha aarti and Ranaut taking the traditional dip in the river Ganga.
