What was your experience like shooting the recreation of a classic song?
It is a big responsibility and a huge honour for me. Bachchan sahib did a wonderful job with the song and we still get goose bumps when we listen to the track. He still has that jaw-dropping effect on us. This song will serve as my tribute to Mr Amitabh Bachchan and Hrithik Roshan.
I wasn’t nervous at all; in fact, I was excited to shoot for this song. Hrithik had strong faith in me and was confident that I would be perfect for Haseeno Ka Deewana. We have tried to recreate the original song in every possible way. Just like Amit ji was wearing a jacket in the original, my outfit is on similar lines. We have also created a huge arena like in the original song. There is one particular shot in which I have weights on my shoulder which weigh almost 100 kg. Those weights caused blood clots all over my body and left marks on my shoulders. This is in the beginning of the song when she says, ‘Kisiko mera haq hai.’ This is the biggest song I have done in my career and I am very proud of myself.
What kind of brief did you get for this song?
There was no brief given to me. All I knew was that it was a typical dancing track. I had to be ‘lady Amitabh Bachchan’.
How did the makers approach you?
Hrithik Roshan and Rakesh Roshan had seen me in several music videos, especially in a red costume. When I met Rakesh ji, there were already rumours that Priyanka Chopra had been approached for the same song. However, when I asked him about it, he said the moment he thought of the song, he had imagined me in the track. I was very kicked. They really loved my song Gal ban gayi and Love dose by Yo Yo Honey Singh, which is close to a million views.
What kind of preparations did you do?
When we were shooting, the director said ‘Call our Indian Beyonce.’ They were quite happy with the way I performed in the song. We shot the song in just one day. My choreographer was confident that completing the song would be peanuts for me. I insisted on rehearsals but thankfully we didn’t require any.
Was it intimidating because it was Amitabh Bachchan’s song?
It was initially scary but once I got into the groove of the song, I was all set.
Did you miss shooting with Hrithik Roshan?
I didn’t have to because it was very sweet of Hrithik to be present on the sets all the time. We discussed various scenes and he told me how important the track is to the film. We agreed on the fact that this track was going to be really big. The song will be launched in a big way in Dubai. We have a press conference there as well.
What are your future projects?
I am reading and selecting scripts right now. There are a few assignments which I have but I can’t talk about them at this stage.
