Melody First

Music director Mannan Shah, who made his debut with Commando, talks about working on the music of the sequel, Commando 2

Mannan Shah says the music of Commando 2 is very different from that of Commando, since it is a more urban-centric film than the previous one. “The film has been majorly shot in local areas in Malaysia and Bangkok and even some parts of Mumbai. It is a more urban-centric film than part one, and the reference given to me in terms of the soundtrack was about getting into soft rock, pop and hard rock. On the other hand, in Commando, I had the sounds of strong Indian melody and classical base merits. That’s the difference between the two and it was challenging for me.”

The composer says that the melody inspired him to work on the tracks of this film. “Melody plays an important role. When you create a song, the melody is always followed by the lyrics and then the arrangements.”
About getting singers on board, Shah says, “I had always wanted Armaan Malik to sing a song for me. Armaan is a fabulous and a talented person. Special thanks to T-Series for getting Amit Mishra and the other singers on board. Amit Mishra has sung Seedha saadha, and Aditi Singh Sharma has sung the title track of the film.”
Shah is overwhelmed with the outcome of his hard work. “The song Tere dil mein is receiving an outstanding response from all quarters and we crossed 5 million views in a week. Armaan Malik has sung this song very well. I have been getting crazy response from everyone. Of course, creative people are never fully satisfied as this is a never-ending process. Creative people want their work to be better and better all the time.”
