Secret Superstar song launch with Aamir Khan

Aamir Khan attended the first song launch for his next production venture, Secret Superstar, along with the film’s team. Leading lady Zaira Wasim was missing from the frame, but Khan was joined by music composer Amit Trivedi, director Advait Chandan, and debutante singer Meghna Mishra, who incidentally is just 15 years old. The song is titled Main kaun hoon.

Aamir Khan on the First Song

It is an important song. Every artist feels this at some point or another. They try to find their identity. We had a different song before. There is no right or wrong in creativity and I told the team that if they like it, we can go ahead and use it. But we wanted to make it just right. Kausar and Amit are fantastic. And a special thanks to Advait, who is guiding the whole team, planting seeds of thoughts in us all.

Kausar Munir on the Song

This song has been a journey of self-discovery for me too. It has been a revelation for me in terms of helping me understand my daughter better, who is about the same age as Meghna and Zaira.

Khan on Zaira Wasim

Zaira was not connected to music at all. Just like she wasn’t connected to wrestling before Dangal. But she learnt to play the guitar for Secret Superstar. She wanted to understand what it takes (original: ‘how’) to really sing and spent a lot of time with Meghna, because her character is a singer, composer and songwriter. It had to seem effortless on screen; she was playing a born artiste, and so Zaira worked very hard.

Aamir Khan on Releasing the Film During Diwali

We wanted to release in August but the film wasn’t completely ready. It is great to release during Diwali. There are times when movies are released a day after Diwali, because people don’t go to theatres on that day as it is an important day for us Indians. But we believe that collections are not everything. Since it is a lucky, auspicious day, we want to release it then.

Aamir Khan on Clashing With Golmaal Again

Diwali is a date that has the bandwidth for two films. There is rarely a Diwali that sees a solo release. Both films will have space. The genres are different, as Golmaal is a full-fledged entertainer. There is no clash as such.
