SRK To ‘Reinvent’ Love With Imtiaz Ali’s Next

As he does every year, Shah Rukh Khan waved to his fans from his Bandra home and addressed the media on the occasion of Eid yesterday. Here’s what happened at the event:

On celebrating festivals
India is the only country where we have so many festivals, from Eid to Diwali, to Holi, and Bhai Duj. We celebrate them so that everyone can come together at least on that day.

On his films
I have known Imtiaz Ali for a very long time and I loved his film Socha Na Tha. Ever since then, he has always narrated his stories to me and sought my creative inputs. I have loved all his films, whether Highway or Rockstar. This time, he told me he had a script for me. I want to do a happy film with him (Imtiaz Ali) because I am in that zone right now. I really love his film, Jab We Met. So, yeah, he has a film for me. He has a different language of love. So, yes, this is a love story but the film isn’t based on Guide. But, keeping my age in mind, this is not a young, upbeat love story. But he has a very nice take on it. Then there is a film with Aanand L Rai, who is still casting. I have also finished shooting for Gauri Shinde’s next.

On postponing Raees
The budget of a film suffers if the movie does not release on 4,000 screens. One needs to have 8,000 to 10,000 cinemas for two movies to release at the same time. I don’t think two big films can release together. Secondly, I suffered some injuries and there are some portions that I still need to shoot.

YS (13)(1)On Ae Dil Hai Mushkil
I have not watched the trailer of Ae Dil Hai Mushkil and I haven’t said that this is how a trailer should be. I have read reports to this effect in the newspapers. Even if I think like that, I do not voice my opinions. I have heard three songs and they are amazing. Karan made me listen to them and one of them is beautiful, I guess the title track. It is one of the nicest ballads. It is fantastic.

On Raees and Kaabil clash
We spoke to Hrithik Roshan, Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar a month ago, and we are working on it. Since they were just starting, we can make some adjustments. Rakeshji (Roshan) and Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar will be meeting again soon, and we are trying to figure out a way so that we don’t clash. We don’t want either film to lose any money. I think a big film has its own level of release. It should release in 3,500-4,000 cinemas.
