Ever since it was announced that Padmavati would be shown to historians before being certified by the CBFC, speculation about the film’s release has increased manifold. The Sanjay Leela Bhansali directorial, which had been indefinitely postponed from its initial December 1, 2017, release, might finally get the green signal from the CBFC but only in January, as there is a backlog of movies with the board.
The grapevine says the makers are looking at a February or March release. Others claim the producers are not keen on a March release as this is the traditional examination period, which is no good for the box office. Hence, the film may hit cinemas in April.
Then there are those who say that if the makers are willing to wait until April, they might as well wait another month, until after its premiere at the Cannes International Film Festival 2018.
While the Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone and Shahid Kapoor-starrer weathers these rumours, our source in the production house says the makers will release Padmavati as soon as the film is certified by the censors.
