Sunidhi Rebooted

IMG_7439She’s back, and this time with the energetic song Bloody hell from Rangoon. We’re talking about Sunidhi Chauhan, who spills the beans on being selective about songs and her new acting career

It’s been a long and eventful journey, and a very successful one, considering she’s one of the top singers in the Hindi film industry. Now, Sunidhi Chauhan is ready to hit ‘reboot’. But before she discusses her plans, including her new acting career, Chauhan dwells on her latest song Bloody hell from Rangoon.

She says what she loved most was just how unique the song was. “I knew it was a period film and that I was singing for Kangana Ranaut, who is playing the character of Julia. Since I have not seen Kangana like this before, I was given a detailed brief,” she reveals.

The songstress says sometimes one has to simply go with the flow. “While singing, you cannot keep all the instructions in mind, so I just go ahead and sing the song. If the singer and the actor perform well, the song turns out to be perfect. The song is very unique. The way the arrangements and composition flow is different. So doing this song was a good experience for me. I love the lyrics, especially the line ‘Usne to aankhon se, Mera naam liya angrezi mein.’ That’s my favourite part of the song.”

The peppy track hit 10 million views in just a couple of days, and Chauhan was flooded with comments as soon as the track released. “I started singing this song on stage and I can see the response. It is really picking up now and I feel good about it.”

Revealing that she has become selective about the songs she sings, Chauhan remarks, “I have been selective lately but I sing whatever interesting comes my way. The only songs I don’t choose to sing are those I have already done before. I don’t want to repeat myself because if I do, I will get bored. I want to deliver something new every time, something that will challenge me.”

The singer has been on long tours, with a legion of fans grooving to her music. “October to December has been very crazy due to concerts. When I am on stage, I am the happiest person and when I am in the studio in front of the mic, I am even happier. It doesn’t stress me; rather, it releases all the stress from my body.”

As if that was not enough, Chauhan has taken the plunge into acting, playing a role in a short film titled Playing Priya. She says there is no looking back and is keen to take her acting career forward. “I have been reading a few scripts. If I do a feature film, I want to make sure it makes some impact. I am looking for the right role.”

Chauhan has one more goal on her agenda. “I am looking forward to doing some singles this year. I have sung a few songs but I am not aware which movie they are for because I get to know that only after it is released. So I don’t know about the forthcoming songs, but I am looking forward to doing some independent music. I haven’t yet decided what kind of music I will be doing for my single. All I know is I want to make songs and videos of things which come to my mind and just have some fun. I haven’t done this for the last 20 years.”
