Take Two

Pankaj Khemka, CEO-MD, OHM Cinemas

It’s no secret that Baahubali: The Conclusion film was the best in the first half of the year. It did humongous business. Now we also have Salman Khan’s Tubelight and Irrfan Khan’s Hindi Medium is also worth mentioning. The other films that did fairly good business are Jolly LLB 2 and Badrinath Ki Dulhania. In the second half, we have Toilet Ek Prem Katha, Jab Harry Met Sejal and Secret Superstar. All of them are big starrers and will work well.

Baahubali: The Conclusion did a fantabulous job and was the only film that did massive business. Now we have Tubelight, which is doing a decent business too. Apart from that, I think Badrinath Ki Dulhania and Akshay Kumar’s Jolly LLB 2 did fairly well.

From the second half, Jab Harry Met Sejal has the potential to do well, Jagga Jasoos has a fighting chance as do Hollywood movie Spider-Man: Homecoming. Later, we have Salman Khan’s Tiger Zinda Hai, Golmaal Again, Aamir Khan-starrer Secret Superstar and Akshay Kumar’s Toilet Ek Prem Katha to look forward to.

Clearly, Baahubali: The Conclusion was head and shoulders above the rest, thanks to its great content.  But the second half of the year is packed with promise as movies with great content will be releasing like Golmaal Again and Tiger Zinda Hai. So I have high hopes from the second half.

The first half did really well because of Baahubali: The Conclusion and also due to a couple of other movies in the first quarter. In second half, there are a couple of movies which will do really well.

Except for Baahubali: The Conclusion, none of the other films did great business in the first half of the year. As expected, the second half has many good releases and there is Golmaal Again, which will release during Diwali. We also have Tiger Zinda Hai during Christmas. So I guess the second half will be a treat.

Without a doubt, Baahubali: The Conclusion and Tubelight worked really well in our circuit. Jolly LLB 2 too did a good business while Alia Bhatt and Varun Dhawan’s Badrinath Ki Dulhania is worth a mention. In the second half, there are good films lined up for the next six months including Jab Harry Met Sejal, Tiger Zinda Hai, Judwaa 2 and Secret Superstar. There are many big films coming up and there’s a lot expected from them. Even Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif’s Jagga Jasoos and Anil Kapoor and Arjun Kapoor’s Mubarakan could do well.

Jeetu-Khandelwal2The only two films that stand out in the first six months of the year are Baahubali: The Conclusion and Tubelight. To our surprise, Irrfan’s Hindi Medium did remarkable business because it released only three weeks after Baahubali and the screens had been assigned to Half Girlfriend. Despite these odds, Hindi Medium did noteworthy business. In the first half, we also had Akshay Kumar’s Jolly LLB 2. In the next six months, we have high hopes from Jab Harry Met Sejal, Padmavati, Tiger Zinda Hai, Golmaal Again and Secret Superstar.

Films that did great business in the first half of the year are Baahubali: The Conclusion, Tubelight, Raees, Jolly LLB 2 and Sachin: A Billion Dreams as well as Hindi Medium. The second half of the year has films that are even more interesting. They are all big-starrers like Akshay Kumar’s Toilet-Ek Prem Katha, Ajay Devgn’s Golmaal Again and Baadshaho, and Salman Khan’s Tiger Zinda Hai. These films have created a lot of hype and there’s a lot riding on them.

debashish-dey-1 Debashish Dey, Distributor, West Bengal

The first half of the year was kind of a mixed bag. Movies which did well in West Bengal are Kaabil, Raees, Badrinath Ki Dulhaniya, Hindi Medium, Jolly LLB 2, The Ghazi Attack and, of course, Baahubali: The Conclusion, racked up humongous numbers.

The second half of the year looks very promising. We have Mom, which has a very unconventional star cast in Sridevi, Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Akshaye Khanna. It should do well in multiplexes. Jagga Jasoos should do well too. Haseena Parkar will  have a very limited audience but Munna Michael and Mubarakan might do well.

Then we have two biggies – Jab Harry Met Sejal, with a good pairing of Shah Rukh Khan, Anuskha Sharma and Imtiaz Ali, followed by Akshay Kumar’s Toilet: Ek Prem Katha, which is a total content-driven film and looks like a winner already. The teaser of Baadshaho has created a great buzz and it looks like a full-on commercial movie. Judwaa 2 and Chef might do well too.

I also feel Madhur Bhandarkar’s Indu Sarkar will fare fairly well at the ticket window. Later, two big films come in – during Diwali, there’s Golmaal Again, a sure-shot winner, and Aamir Khan’s Secret Superstar. Sanja Leela Bhansali’s Padmavati should do well too. Fukrey Returns will generate some buzz as its first first part was a hit. Last but not least, Salman Khan’s movie Tiger Zinda Hai will win the hearts of the audience and the box office and will be a smash-hit.
