It will rain sequels in November
Sequels generally tend to do well in our market with many of them displaying a doubling, tripling or even better multiplication of their business. Now call it coincidence but November is going to be a month of sequels this year. Check this out: Rock On 2 and Chaar Sahibzaade Rise of Banda Singh Bahadur will release on November 11, followed by Tum Bin 2 and Force 2 on November 18 and Kahaani 2 on November 25. With five sequels hitting the silver screen in the month of November the audience will be spoilt for choice.
Excel Entertainment’s Rock On 2 will hit the screens and has the original cast Farhan Akhtar, Arjun Rampal, Prachi Desai, and Purab Kohli. Also joining the cast will be Shraddha Kapoor and Shashank Arora. Also releasing on the same day is Harry Baweja’s animated film Chaar Sahibzaade Rise of Banda Singh Bahadur.
T-Series and Benaras Mediaworks’ Tum Bin 2 directed by Anubhav Sinha featuring Neha Sharma, Aditya Seal and Ashim Gulati. Releasing along with Tum Bin 2 is Force 2 action thriller directed by Abhinay Deo, featuring John Abraham and Sonakshi Sinha. Next sequel to release will be Sujoy Ghosh’s Kahaani 2 featuring Vidya Balan.
This week, we asked the trade experts which sequel according to them will hit the bull’s-eye and has the maximum expectations attached to its release and why. Here’s what they had to say, Over to them:
Tanu Weds Manu, Kahaani, Pyaar Ka Punchnama, Gangs of Wasseypur, Chashme Baddoor, Queen are all VMP films, where the sequel has either already been hugely successful or are currently in the making. Force 2 is our first action franchise and given the response the trailer has garnered, crossing 10 million views within a few days of the unfolding of the campaign, we are looking at the film not only taking a double digit opening but becoming a yet another sequel success from the VMP stable. Besides our Hindi slate we have had extensive experience on established success with Transformers, Terminator, Star Trek and Mission Impossible franchises some of which have grown to 5X of their first outing. Even on our Marathi slate we had a strong outcome on Zapatlela 2 in 3D that was a sequel of the iconic original. One has to be clear on how will the film grow in its sequel. In Force 2, there is growth on multiple dimensions — be it from a Villain who is now brainy, a hero who has grown in stature, action that is entirely shot in Europe, a plot mapped across countries, a contemporary director who has excelled in delivering a series like 24 and Vipul Shah who knows a few things about sequels. Given all this, as a sequel, Force 2 makes for a strong case.
It won’t be fare on my part to talk about Kahaani 2 but from the other upcoming sequels I believe Force 2 and Rock On 2 are looking really impressive. First of all, both the films’ first parts were extraordinary and the audiences watch the first ones. It is still fresh in their heads, and as per the trailers both look promising. Force was one of its first kind of an action film which had a different action style. Rock On was first kind of a music band film so both have their its fan following.
Kahaani 2 is something I am looking forward too and really want to watch what twist has Sujoy Ghosh got this time. The first film was very unpredictable with a brilliant ending, no one could guess anything. Though the trailer or teaser, nothing is out but that’s one film I want to watch out for. Force 2, Rock On 2 both were superhit films and the fans of both the films are waiting to watch it. Tum Bin 2 is definitely going to be a musical treat.
Sequels if made with passion always work. What people do is try to cash on sequels just because of the name. But what one should do is work harder on the sequel so that a franchise can be made. And the upcoming month has all the promising sequels like Force 2, Kahaani 2 and Rock On 2. Force 2 was a superhit film and everyone loved John Abraham’s action, Kahaani 2 was definitely a brilliant film with suspense and was a first one in Indian cinema, so everyone is looking forward to the film. Rock On 2 is one film which is looking very promising as the films first part was very popular especially among youth. The trailer of the sequel is very promising and the songs are catching up so definitely everyone is looking forward to the film.
One film which I am totally looking forward to is Chaar Sahibzaade-The Rise Of Banda Singh Bahadur because after a long time an Indian animation film was so good and it ran for a very long time. So I am looking forward to the sequel to see what Harry Baweja has done more in the film. Very rarely it happens that an Indian animation film does so well. Another sequel is Kahaani 2. It was a very unpredictable thriller with an unpredictable ending. So what Sujoy Ghosh has done in the sequel is what I am looking forward too. Force 2 had some amazing action stunts by John Abraham and it was a remake of the South film whereas the sequel is a fresh story and the promo is looking outstanding. These are the sequels which I am looking forward too.
