This film is about three best buddies who embark on a journey before one of them gets married. It’s a trip they had planned when they were younger and you expect a total joyride. Pity, the protagonists don’t seem to be as excited as you are! Expectations build as the film rolls but the mood falters even before the journey begins. The film’s slow pace with not much happening further mars its prospects.
Another flaw is the lack of chemistry between the protagonists. Although the three of them are supposed to be best buddies, this sentiment is not conveyed. OK, so Hrithik Roshan and Farhan Akhtar have a bridge to cross but the intimacy and trust shared by best friends is sorely lacking.
Since the film is produced by Farhan Akhtar and he’s also one of the protagonists, you tend to compare this film with his directorial debut, Dil Chahta Hai. While in Dil Chahata Hai, the journey was just a part of the film, ZNMD is about their journey and how the three of them overcome their fears. Their transition and the realisation of what they want out of life are also not conveyed adequately.
Did we forget to tell you that there’s one more hero in the film? It’s the picturesque location – Spain. Thanks to the cinematographer, the country has been captured beautifully. Even if you don’t fall in love with the characters, you fall in love with the location, and tend to miss scripting flaws. The underwater dive, sky-diving and the bull chase are definite highlights. Never mind lackluster screenplay, the stunning vistas alone make the film worth watching.
