What’s It All About
Watch Out For!
1. Guest Panellist: Melissa Rosenberg, Twilight saga screenwriter, will show a clip from the forthcoming flick, New Moon, apart from participating in Write What You Know: Fantasy/Sci-Fi and Love Stories/ Romantic Comedies.
2. Documentary Feature Competition: Director Shan Nicholson presents Downtown Calling, which documents the evolution of New York City during the 1970s and shows how its collective output continues to play a driving role in the international fashion, art and music industries today.
The festival opens with Serious Moonlight. Directed by Cheryl Hines, the movie is about a high-powered Manhattan lawyer, Louise (Meg Ryan), who is told by her husband of 13 years, Ian (Timothy Hutton), that he’s leaving her for a younger woman. Things start to go wrong when Louise holds Ian captive until he professes his love for her.
Director Oren Moverman’s The Messenger is this year’s Centerpiece. It’s the story of two soldiers from different generations who are assigned to inform the ‘next of kin’.
The closing night will feature Up In The Air by writer/director Jason Reitman. Ryan Bingham (George Clooney), a consummate modern business traveller who, after years of staying happily airborne, suddenly contemplates what it means to actually have a home.
