After giving us memorable films such as Revolutionary Road, Skyfall and Spectre, Oscar-winning director, Sam Mendes, is all set with his upcoming film titled 1917. The film, based on World War l, is about two young British soldiers, Schofield and Blake, who are given a seemingly impossible mission. In a race against time, they must cross enemy territory and deliver a message that will stop a deadly attack on hundreds of soldiers which includes Blake’s own brother.
The trailer of 1917 gives us a glimpse into the First World War. It opens with a sequence where a soldier is trying to run away from the effects of the war against a backdrop of smoke rising from a bomb blast. It also includes montages of men hiding in trenches and the injured bodies of soldiers being carried. The atmosphere smells of gore and gunpowder. The intense background score and gloom that looms large over the trailer prepare us for what’s in store for us!
Sam has also written the screenplay with Krysty Wilson-Cairns. The film is produced by Mendes and Pippa Harris under the banner of Neal Street Productions for DreamWorks Pictures in association with New Republic Pictures. Universal Pictures will release the film domestically in limited release on December 25, 2019, and wide on January 10, 2020, Reliance Entertainment will release the film in India.
1917 stars George MacKay, Dean-Charles Chapman, Mark Strong, Andrew Scott, Richard Madden and Claire Duburcq with Colin Firth and Benedict Cumberbatch.
