23rd Palm Springs International Film Festival

What’s It All About

The Palm Springs International Film Festival (PSIFF) is one of the largest film festivals in North America, welcoming 1,30,000 attendees each year for its line-up of new and celebrated international features and documentaries.  The festival is also known for its annual Black Tie Awards Gala, honoring the best achievements of the filmic year by a celebrated list of talents who have included Ben Affleck, Javier Bardem, Cate Blanchett, Jeff Bridges, Danny Boyle, Leonardo DiCaprio, Clint Eastwood, Colin Firth, Ron Howard, Sean Penn, Brad Pitt, Natalie Portman and Kate Winslet.

The 23rd Annual Palm Springs International Film Festival is presented by Title Sponsor, the City of Palm Springs.

Young Adult

Academy Award-winner Charlize Theron plays Mavis Gary, a writer of teen literature who returns to her hometown to relive her glory days and attempt to reclaim her happily married high school sweetheart (Patrick Wilson). When returning home proves more difficult than she thought, Mavis forms an unusual bond with a former classmate (Patton Oswalt) who hasn’t quite gotten over high school either.

Hugo

Hugo is the adventure of a wily and resourceful boy whose quest to unlock a secret left to him by his father will transform him and all those around him, and reveal a safe and loving place he can call home.

This session will also have a Q & A with special guest, producer Graham King, Oscar winner for The Departed.

A Night At The Opera

Two lovers who are both in the opera are prevented from being together because of the inability of the man to be accepted as an operatic tenor. Pulling several stunts, they arrange for the regular tenor to be absent so that the young lover can get his chance.

The Philadelphia Story

After getting a divorce from CK Dexter Haven, Tracy Lord prepares to marry again. However, in the days before her wedding, Haven and a reporter, posing as her brother’s friend, show up at her doorstep. From there, Tracy is forced to choose among her past love, her present love and her new love.

Some Like It Hot

A Marilyn Monroe’s classic based on two struggling musicians witness the St Valentine’s Day massacre and have to find a way out of the city before they are killed by the mob. The only job that will pay their way is an all-girl band. So the two dress up as women. One falls for another band member but can’t tell her his gender, and the other is pursued by a rich suitor who will not take ‘no’ for an answer.
