5 films of birthday boy Chiranjeevi that are a must watch!

Megastar Chiranjeevi... the name is enough to send Telugu cinema lovers all over the world into a frenzy. He may have turned 63 today, but the actor's passion for cinema has not aged even a day. He can still do the amazing break dance movies that he is known for so much so that the young actors today may find it difficult to match steps with him.

It was 40 years ago, on September 22, 1978, one month after he turned 23, Chiranjeevi made his debut as actor with the Telugu film Pranam Khareedu. This was followed by several films, in some he had supporitng roles and some he was leading man. He also played the villain in quite a few movies. He did films with Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan. But it was not until the 80s that Chiranjeevi the star was born.

The 1983 release Khaidi was the film that catapulted the actor to stardom. What is amazing about Chiranjeevi is that he is one of the few actors who did not stick to a certain genre. From action films to family dramas to romantic films to social films, he saw success in every type of role. he has acted in 150 films till date and his last release was just last year. The actor is currently working in his most ambitious project SyeRaa Narasimha Reddy, a biopic based on India's first freedom fighter. The teaser of the film was released yesterday and the response from the audience has been amazing.

It will be 2019 by the time SyeRaa releases but till then we leave you with five movies of Chiranjeevi that are a must watch:

#Vijetha - Remake of the Hindi film Saheb, it is the story of a young man who makes a huge sacrifice for the good of his family.

#Swayam Krushi - Chiranjeevi plays a cobbler who is raising his dead sister's son. His trials and tribulations, love and loss makes this a watchable drama.

#Rudraveena - Starring with veteran actor Gemini Ganesan, Chiranjeevi gave one of his finest performances in this film. The movie deals with caste issues. The narrative beautifully weaves the social cause of equality with the father-son relationship with classical music as the backdrop. The film won the Nargis Dutt Award for Best Feature Film on National Integration at the 36th National Awards.

#Indra - This film is considered as Chiranjeevi's comeback film. Released in 2002, the actor reclaimed his stardom after a spate of not so successful films. It was one of the biggest hits in his career and had a 175 day run in some centres.

#Khaidi No. 150 - This was Chiranjeevi 150th film and remake of the Vijay starrer Tamil film Kaththi. The fact that he was stepping into the shoes of a much younger actor did not make affect the film. Chiranjeevi was at his best in this film and it is no surprise that it was huge hit.

Konidela Siva Sankara Vara Prasad, our Chiranjeevi is indeed the 'vara prasad' - 'gift of God' to Telugu cinema. Just like his stage name Chiranjeevi, his movies and his work will remain immortal. As the actor turns 63 today, Box Office India would like to wish him Puṭṭinaroju Subhakaaṅkṣalu Chiranjeevi garu.
