Marvel Cinematic Universe fans have been waiting for Avengers: Endgame to surpass Avatar's record as the No. 1 movie of all time worldwide. And this weekend, Avengers: Endgame inched closer to that milestone, racing past Avatar's ticket sales of $761 million in US.
According to box office estimates and Disney, at the end of its fourth weekend Endgame accumulated a total of $770.8 million in US ticket sales.
This means Endgame has now taken the No. 2 spot in US box office sales, behind only Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which is still No. 1 in US and Canada with $937 million.
Worldwide, Endgame has now sold an estimated $2.61 billion in tickets, including $76.2 million this weekend, say reports. However, Avatar's ticket sales are still the highest globally, at @2.78 billion globally.
While the difference is not much, what is a roadblock for Avengers: Endgame is that it has slowed down considerably while also facing stiff opposition this week with Keanu Reeves starrer John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum, which made an impressive $57 million in its opening weekend. Also it dethroned Avengers: Endgame at the box office chart.
But the clear winner here is Disney that is laughing all the way to the bank as it owns all three franchises - Star Wars, Avengers and Avatar.
