Badla turns out as highest first weekend grosser for director Sujoy Ghosh at Rs 21.50 crore

Year 2019 has begun with a bang for the Hindi film industry. Films of varied genres have been well-received by the audience be it war, period, comedy, rom-com or drama.  The latest released suspense-thriller Badla, starring Amitabh Bachchan and Taapsee Pannu, is creating a good buzz among the movie goers. The film has raked in good numbers in its first weekend, making it the highest first weekend earner for director Sujoy Ghosh after his previous release Kahaani 2

Badla has collected Rs 21.50 crore in its first weekend, which is 27 per cent higher than Ghosh’s previous release Kahaani 2 which earned Rs 16.97 crore during its first weekend. Even for the female lead Taapsee Pannu, it is her third highest grosser after Judwaa 2 (Rs 57.66 cr) and Baby (Rs 29.69 cr) as far as first weekends are concerned.

Moreover, among this year’s releases, Badla stands at sixth position among the highest weekend grossers, after Kartik Aaryan and Kriti Sanon-starrer Luka Chuppi (Rs 30.47 cr). Badla earned Rs 4.59 crore, Rs 7.98 crore and Rs 8.93 crore on its first, second and third day respectively.
