Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif starrer Bharat, based on the 2014 South Korean film Ode To My Father, is doing wonders at the box office since the day of its release. The film released in theatres during the festival of Eid on June 5 and it became the highest day one grosser of 2019 by collecting Rs 42.10 crore. To add to this, the film made another record of grossing the highest in its first weekend of all the Hindi releases of 2019. It collected a whopping Rs 144.65 crore in just five days.
Prior to this, the highest weekend one grosser of the current year was Dharma Production’s Kesari featuring Akshay Kumar, which grossed Rs 77.35 crore. This makes Bharat’s collections approximately 87 per cent higher than that of Kesari. Following Bharat and Kesari, the other films among the top five first weekend grossers of 2019 include Gully Boy with Rs 66.39 crore, Kalank with Rs 62.47 crore and Total Dhamaal with Rs 61.77 crore.
Bharat’s collections are a result of the Salman Khan magic, strong buzz surrounding the film as well as positive word-of-mouth. The film is expected to do a business of around Rs 200 crore.
