Once again, tradewallahs were right. First, that Vashu Bhagnani’s promotion would prove fruitful – F.A.L.T.U. indeed performed reasonably well. Second, that Game would tank and that the low-key promotion of Thank You would work against the film. Thank You started on a slow note and despite several holidays during the week, collections failed to rise.
Judging by the start cast and the money spent on the project, the film should have had got off to a flying start and witnessed an increase in footfalls with every passing show. That didn’t happen.
Now tradewallahs predict the same fate for Rohan Sippy’s Dum Maaro Dum. They are citing Tees Maar Khan, whose producers went flat out to promote the Sheila ki jawani song and kept leading man Akshay Kumar in the shadows.
The makers of Dum Maaro Dum are making the same mistake, where the promos are focusing on the title track and Deepika Padukone. Tradewallahs point out that Padukone is merely doing an item number and there is no need to go all out and promote her.
Tradewallahs from North are adamant that Dum Maaro Dum will not bring the audience in. Just one week to go and the consensus is that the producers still have a chance if they aggressively promote the film in the right perspective.
World Cup mania has subsided but IPL matches are gaining momentum. Evening shows are running thin and tradewallahs feel it is very difficult for any film to survive with the IPL stealing the audience.
The promos of Haunted 3D have not impressed the trade. Judging by the trailers, the film offers nothing new – and it’s not even scary. The only saving grace is that the film has been shot in 3D but then, how many cinemas in India are equipped to showcase a 3D film? Besides, there’s next to no promotion for the film, which will further dampen its prospects.
Though the theatrical trailers of Haunted have failed to generate any curiosity, the theatrical trailer of Salman Khan’s Ready was introduced this week. The trailer is rocking and everyone in the film trade is optimistic about the fate of this film. The theatrical trailer has been liked by one and all, and Salman Khan looks very refreshing as does Asin. But the posters of the film are a big letdown.
Two of action films – Ajay Devgn’s Singham and Salman Khan’s Bodyguard – are among the hottest products right now. But film traders feel the price being quoted for Bodyguard for various territories is much too high.
The same is being said of Karan Johar’s remake of Agneepath. Though everyone feels Hrithik Roshan will be compared to Amitabh Bachchan, who starred in the original, this film is one of the hottest proposals today.
Meanwhile, the trailer of Shah Rukh Khan’s Ra.One continues to make waves, and expectations of this extravaganza are only growing. On the other hand, Don 2 is also considered a hot proposal and everyone feels this film will end the year on a happy note.
