Shantanu Moitra has a distinct style when it comes to film music. His compositions for films such as Parineeta, Lage Raho Munnabhai, Khoya Khoya Chand and 3 Idiots have been etched in the minds of music lovers across the country. Since Moitra is selective about the work he does, one always looks forward to his albums. His latest score is for the Vidya Balan-starrer Bobby Jasoos. The soundtrack comprises four original composi-tions, each one penned by Swanand Kirkire.
The opening track Jashn is a breezy, catchy number. Shreya Ghoshal knocks it out of the park with her rendition of this celebratory song. Moitra takes a leaf out of South Indian Kuthu songs, packs the composition with quirky sounds, adds a super chorus and a solid cameo by Bonnie Chakraborty. Jashn is just the kind of song that puts a smile on your face.
Tu (Papon, Shreya Ghoshal) is a delightful semi-classical composition by Moitra. Papon’s rendition is magical and Ghoshal is marvellous in the dreamy chorus portions. Moitra uses a melange of classical instruments like the veena, sarangi, harmonium and tabla to create a mesmerising song that will linger long after you have heard it. The reprise version with Ghoshal taking centre stage is equally compelling.
The title track B.O.B.B (Neeraj Sridhar, Shreya Ghoshal) is a light, fun, entertaining track with peculiar lyrics by Kirkire. Sridhar is clearly having a ball singing this one!
Though Aishwarya Nigam and Monali Thakur add dollops of energy and enthusiasm to their rendition of Sweety, it doesn’t help much to elevate this monotonous track.
The soundtrack of Bobby Jasoos is worth a listen, with the highlight track being the ex-quisite Tu.
Verdict: Go for it!
