Country's COVID 19 situation is worsening with each passing day. As the Coronavirus cases are rising exponentially and the 'new normal' suggests social distancing, this means the theatres will remain closed for quite some time now. Bad news for the cine-lovers indeed! While we wait for the theatres to open again, here's time to check Tollywood's last blockbuster film, Brahma Janen Gopon Kommoti.
Window's women-centric film, released on 6th March 2020, Brahma Janen Gopon Kommoti is the last blockbuster of Bengali film industry. The film had a brief run of two weeks until India locked herself down. The film that was released, keeping Women's Day in mind, has been appreciated for its unique and progressive content. Starring Ritabhari Chakraborty and Soham Majumdar, debutant director Aritra Mukherjee's film became an instant hit, right after its release.
Exhibitor of prestigious Navina Cinema, Kolkata, Navin Choukhani said, "Before lockdown, the last film that was running in our theatres was Brahma Janen Gopon Kommoti. It was a blockbuster. It was doing so well at the box office, that the film would undoubtedly roar at the box office if there was not any lockdown. If the situation remains unaltered, Brahma Janen Gopon Kommoti will be the last megahit of the year 2020."
Babloo Damani, the distributor of the film, also spoke on the same note. He said, "The movie picked up very well. In the second weekend, it did 90% business. Had there been no lockdown, the movie would have been houseful for a month. It was a perfect family drama and audience of different age-group loved the film. I guess if the film comes back, people would gladly accept it with open arms. They loved the movie."
As the pandemic has no plan to leave the country right away, the industry is doubtful about any further release in the year 2020. The shooting has not been allowed in full capacity and the future of the industry is in deep trouble. Will Brahma Janen Gopon Kommoti remain the last film of the year to have houseful shows at theater? Only time will tell.
