The song Tung tung in Singh Is Bliing has been on everybody’s lips and the lady behind this addictive number is music composer Sneha Khanwalkar
THE JOURNEY SO FAR
The journey has been great as I am doing what I love. It’s been tough but as a music lover, I have learnt many things.
The first break came from Dibakar Banerjee for Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye! It was a time when the industry was undergoing a change in filmmaking and my kind of music was liked by a certain type of audience. After that, I did Love Sex Aur Dhoka and then Gangs Of Wasseypur, which changed my career.
GETTING A CALL FOR SINGH IS BLIING
I received a call from Ashvini Yardi, the producer of Singh Is Bliing. We had a meeting and she said she wanted the song Tung tung as it fit the plot of her film. That’s how Singh Is Bliing happened.
ON KEEPING THE FLAVOUR
The song features Akshay Kumar as the lead so they wanted a male voice. But director Prabhudheva loved the original track so they also wanted to keep the Noora Sisters’ vocals of the song. We worked on the musical arrangement and decided to get Diljith Dosanjh on board as he is Punjabi and he suited the mood of the song. We recorded it with him.
There are no huge changes, only the arrangements have been changed. The trip has changed to match the male voice. The instruments are also different. That song was recorded in a different zone, with a different plot, in order to discover new sounds, whereas the plot of the film required a different feel. In the film, it’s has a happy edge for Akshay (Kumar) to dance on. Also, Diljit took the vocals to a higher pitch.
ON MEETING PRABHUDHEVA
I met Prabhu sir for the first time during the recording of this song. He was very humble and he loved the original track and asked me to do it my own way. His only demand was the male voice, which he also loved.
ON THE RESPONSE
Before we recorded the song, we knew the niche audience of Sound Trippin (the MTV show) would love the original and there might be a little criticism too. Sound Trippin had a limited audience but now that this song is in an Akshay Kumar-starrer, it reaches out to a much larger number of people. I am very happy with the response.
