What’s It All About?
Set in the home of the world’s most influential media technology companies, Silicon Valley, the Cinequest Film Festival has showcased premier films, renowned and emerging artistes, and breakthrough technology, empowering global connectivity. In its 25th year, the fest will heighten its focus on the future of a powerful fusion of creativity, filmmaking and technological innovation.
The festival’s highest honor, the Maverick Award recognises bold, visionary and creative forces exemplary in the world of Silicon Valley innovation and the film arts. The 13-day event presents over 90 World and US premieres with innovations by 700+ participating filmmakers from over 50 countries each year. This year, the event will also feature a special category The Future of Film Showcase, which will have three intersecting elements: Youth Film Exhibitions, Youth Meet Luminaries Forums and Innovation Experiences
Indian Connect
Two Indian feature films – Nila and Vartak Nagar - A Story Of Four Crows - will be showcased at the event under the category of Love and Life, respectively. Vartak Nagar - A Story Of Four Crows is directed by Atul Taishete and features Jimmy Sheirgill, Raghu Ram and Shweta Gulati. Set during the time of the Bombay mill strike of 1982, the film revolves around four childhood friends who are forced to confront adulthood when the volatile upheaval of the mill strike threatens their lives.
Nila is the directorial debut of Selvamani Selvaraj which explores the possibilities of what happens when the person you thought you knew best obscures his or her past from you.

Opening Film
Eye In The Sky
Award-winning director Gavin Hood will present his new thriller Eye In The Sky, starring Dame Helen Mirren, Alan Rickman, Iain Glen, Barkhad Abdi and Aaron Paul. The film is the story of a UK-based military officer who is in command of a top secret drone operation to capture terrorists in Kenya. The mission escalates from “capture” to “kill” just as a nine-year old girl enters the kill zone.

The fest culminates with Simom Stones’ The Daughter featuring Geoffrey Rush, Ewen Leslie, Paul Schneider, Miranda Otto, Anna Torv, Odessa Young and Sam Neill. The story revolves around a man who returns home to discover a long-buried family secret, and whose attempts to put things right threatens and the lives of those he left home years ago.
