Child actor Shweta Basu Prasad, who honed her acting skills on South films and on television, played the quintessential sister-in-law to Varun’s character Badrinath in Dharma Productions’ Badrinath Ki Dulhania. Here’s the actress in a quick chat with Rohini Nag Madnani on the film…
On Bagging Badrinath Ki Dulhania
It was early last year when I got a call for the look test for Urmila’s character. After the test, I met the director, Shashank Khaitan, and his fantastic direction team at the old Dharma Productions office. I was signed on instantly. I was told that Shashank had really liked my test and he felt I suited the role well. It was around the same time I had signed my magnum opus television show Chandra Nandini with Balaji Telefilms (where I play Nandini). I discussed the offer with Ekta (Kapoor), who was very supportive and encouraging. In fact, whenever my dates clashed, both production houses sorted it out. Before Badrinath… and Chandra Nandini, I was working with Phantom Films as a script consultant.
Working With Dharma Productions
There is a reason Dharma is one of the leading production houses in the country. It is such an amazing team and they make it so comfortable for actors to shoot with them. I had a great time. Credit for that also largely goes to the director, Shashank, who is a very calm and positive person. His energy trickles down to the entire team.
Brief From Shashank Khaitan For Your Role
Keep it real and nothing specific. Shashank’s homework for my role or, for that matter, all the characters, was so well done that as an actor I came prepared to the set. We had several reading sessions and scene rehearsals at the Dharma office.
Television vs Films.
Format doesn’t matter as long as one associates with good projects and teams.
South Films Vs Hindi Films
Again, the industry doesn’t matter, all that does is which team and what project you are a part of.
On Future Projects
Right now, it’s Chandra Nandini, the television serial I am working on. But I have been receiving film offers as well. I look forward to quality work.
I am very overwhelmed by the response.
