We just told you that Sajid Nadiadwala’s Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment has come aboard ’83 to co-produce the film. But there’s another name that is floating around. If reports are to be believed, Deepika Padukone will also don the hat of a co-producer for this film. Earlier, there were speculations that the actress will play her husband, Ranveer Singh’s, onscreen wife in the film that is based on legendary cricketer Kapil Dev and India’s iconic World Cup win in 1983 under his captaincy.
“Deepika has a good role because she plays Kapil’s wife, Romi Bhatia who was also a pageant winner. In fact, as far as the story goes, she had left the stadium after India started losing the wickets. But when she heard that they are on the verge of winning the World Cup, she came back to the stadium. That part is extremely dramatic. Also, the film will delve into the relationship between the husband and wife, their love story,” said a source to a web portal.
If all goes well, then this will be Padukone’s second stint as a co-producer, the first being her own film Chhapaak that is being directed by Meghna Gulzar. Apparently, the actress was bowled over by the cricketer’s story and the script. This would indeed make for an interesting collaboration.
On a related note, Singh is currently prepping for ’83. The film directed by Kabir Khan is being produced by Reliance Entertainment in association with Vibri Media and Kabir Khan Films. It is scheduled for an April 10, 2020 release.
