When Vijay directed Vijay in Thalaivaa, the film due to its political flavour had its share of hiccups. But it was well recieved by critics and audiences.
Director Vijay finally seems to have come to terms with making sequels with the release with Devi 2, sequel to his successful Prabhudheva and Tamannaah starrer Devi. For someone who has dabbled in almost every genre of film, it is indeed surprising that he did not make a follow up film. Of course most of his films are standalone and may not have warranted a sequel, but there were some stories that he could have explored like Deiva Thirumagal and Thaandavam.
In an interview with a daily, Vijay said ,"A sequel is only possible when the first film has done well with the audiences". The director was quizzed which film of his does he plan to make a sequel. And his response was "Thalaivaa." He also shared that it was still at the ideating stage, but it would be indeed a film to watch out for.
There are so many aspects of the film that he can explore. Besides a sequel, he could also make it a prequel and tell us the story of Sathyaraj or make a film transitioning between the past and the present.
