Double The Fun

As comedy takes centrestage, Big B gets set to recreate history

Riding on some rib-tickling humour, Indra Kumar’s Double Dhamaal makes an entry to this column. Expected to release next Friday, the film is carrying an excellent report at a time when the success of Ready has proved that there’s ample scope for a funny film at the ticket window.

Though Ready had everything in it, Double Dhamaal is out-an-out comedy. No wonder everyone is ecstatic about the film. There’s another plus – the film’s brand value as it is a sequel to Kumar’s Dhamaal, which was a huge success. Also, it features the same star cast (though, Dhamaal was a heroine-less movie; Double Dhamaal features women in it).

Another film, which makes an entry to our charts is Imran Khan’s next release Delhi Belly, whose producers, Aamir Khan and UTV Motion Pictures, are leaving no stone unturned to promote the film. They have been introducing one song after another to whet the audience’ imagination and the music is being lapped up by the youth. The only hiccup is that the film is releasing on the same day as Amitabh Bachchan’s BHTB.

Big B’s look and the action trailers have created a buzz in the film trade and everyone is optimistic that Big B’s return as the ‘angry young man’ will recreate history.

Following Ready’s stupendous success, other films that have become the talk of the trade is Ajay Devgn’s Singham, Amitabh Bachchan’s Bbuddah...Hoga Terra Baap and of course, Salman Khan’s next release during Eid, Bodyguard.

Riding on the current success of action films at the ticket counter, the popularity of another action film, Agneepath is also growing. And anticipation is building big time for Shah Rukh Khan’s Ra.One. Don 2 is also considered a hot proposition and will close out 2011 on a positive note.

Last week, two new films fell under our scanner – Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara (ZNMD)and Murder 2. Though the latter is hot among the trade, the same cannot be said of ZNMD thanks to an uninspiring poster and trailer.
