There is a lot of excitement as the remake of 1994’s classic animated film The Lion King will be releasing next week. The film is directed by Jon Favreau. Speaking about his deep connection with the film, Jon says to a news agency, “It's such a beloved property. Disney has had tremendous success with the original animated version and then the Broadway musical.”
He says that a trip to Africa has directed him to make The Lion King. “I went on a safari to Africa six months prior to first talking to Disney about doing this film. I remember when a warthog ran by our safari vehicle, one of the people in our group started singing Hakuna matata. And then when we saw lions up on a rock, they all said, 'Oh, look, it looks like Lion King'. This story has become a frame of reference that everybody now knows and accepts.”
The Lion King will be released in India in four different languages - English, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu, on July 19 this year. The voice cast includes Donald Glover as Simba, James Earl Jones as Mufasa, Seth Rogen as Pumbaa, Chiwetel Ejiofor as Scar, Billy Eichner as Timona and Beyoncé Knowles-Carter as Nala.
