Varun Sharma is the new comic hero in town, following the footsteps Govinda and Chunky Panday. Varun who shot to fame with Fukrey in 2013 created a niche for himself with films like Dolly Ki Doli, Dilwale and Fukrey Returns. In his upcoming film Khandaani Shafakhana, he will be seen doing what he does best - leave everyone in splits with his quirks. He will play the brother to Sonakshi Sinha’s Baby Bedi who is baffled when he learns that his sister is planning to run the family sex clinic.
Team Box Office India recently caught up with the actor who talked at length about cracking a comedy film. He says, “When it comes to making a comedy film, it is important to have good actors around you. No matter how well I pull off a comic scene, it won’t come shining through if my co-actor doesn’t respond to it. Then the whole scene would fall completely flat.”
He continues, “If Sonakshi and paaji (Badshah) are nailing a scene and if a third person fails to respond to them, it won’t create magic. If you have to make someone cry, you can do it on your own. But comedy is a genre where your timing should be in sync with your co-actor and you’ve to be in constant anticipation of their responses. The way a comic scene is directed and the overall look of the frame also matters. This is one genre that comes to life once you start shooting for it and when other elements get involved, which is why it is such a tough genre.”
Seems like Varun has mastered the art of making us laugh! For him, it is important to improvise comic scenes. He remarks, “But at the same time, it is a whole lot of fun. You can improvise a lot during the shoot and incorporate things that come naturally to you.”
Varun has an interesting lineup of films where he will be seen playing around his forte. He has his kitty full with Arjun Patiala, Chhichhore and ROOHiAFZA.
Coming back to Khandaani Shafakhana, it is directed by Shilpi Dasgupta. The Sundial venture is produced by Bhushan Kumar, Mahaveer Jain, Mrighdeep Singh Lamba, Divya Khosla Kumar and Krishan Kumar. It is presented by Gulshan Kumar and T-Series and is slated to hit the screens on August 2, 2019.
