A mong the three films released this week -- Kucch Luv Jaisaa (KLJ), Sheetalbhabhi.com and College Campus, the only film worth talking about is KLJ. The film, after lying in the cans for a long time, finally saw the light of day. But few were aware of the film because of the poor promotions. Thus, tradewallahs were not surprised that the film did not take a good opening. Needless to say, it will be out of cinemas very soon.
Meanwhile, Bbuddah...Hoga Terra Baap and Delhi Belly were the talk of the trade this week. Thanks to the action promo of BHTB, which was instantly a huge hit, the film is one of the hottest properties going. Helping its prospects is the song, Bhaag DK Bose, which is already the rage among movie-goers. The only hitch: Both films are scheduled to release on the same day, ie, July 1. Making matters worse, the Hollywood film Transformers shares the same release date. Well, all we can say is we hope they don’t split the audience and, consequently, each other’s business.
After the initial craze and word of mouth that kept the momentum alive for Stanley Ka Dabba and Ragini MMS, both films have finally faded. But the 3D impact still seems to be luring the audience to Vikram Bhatt’s Haunted, which is still experiencing decent footfalls.
Everyone is looking forward to the big release, Ready, which is due next week, and everyone associated with the product is very excited about its prospects. Yes, there’s a blitz in store as every distributor of the film is trying to book as many cinemas as they possibly can.
In Delhi city and its suburbs alone, as many as 60 cinema halls will screen the film; in Uttar Pradesh, it’s 90 cinemas; and in Punjab, the number is pegged at 100 and still counting. It’s a similar story in Mumbai and elsewhere. Yes, Ready will be Salman Khan’s biggest release in terms of cinema halls and prints to date. Phew!!!
As for Khan’s other big release, Bodyguard, well, it is counted among one of the hottest projects right now. But tradewallahs caution that the success of Ready will decide the fate of Bodyguard.
And the craze for Ajay Devgn’s Singham is steadily building. If the actor is shooting in Glasgow, director Rohit Shetty is busy cutting the first look and first trailer, which, we’re told, will be unleashed next week. Tradewallas who have had a dekho at the teaser predict that expectations will shoot sky high once it is introduced to the janta.
The popularity of another action film, Agneepath, is also growing with every passing day. There were some apprehensions that this film might not release in November as planned but sources from Dharma Productions confirm that it will release in November this year.
And, finally, expectations are building for Shah Rukh Khan’s Ra.One. The mega-star’s Don 2 is also considered a hot proposal and is expected to close out 2011 on a positive note. The same can be said of Prakash Jha’s magnum opus, Aarakshan.
