Goodachari, Chi La Sow: Telugu Cinema exploring different genres

Goodachari & Chi La Sow

Telugu films are usually associated with over-the-top action, heavy punch dialogues and of course not so subtle romance. But over time there have been film makers who have tried to rewrite this narrative and with a fair amount of success.

The successful remake of Telugu films in other languages, especially Tamil and Hindi has proven time and again that there is no dearth of good content in the industry. SS Rajamouli with Baahubali proved that even a costume drama if made with the right intentions can become a national money spinner.

But despite all this, the Telugu box office has had its share of hiccups. While movies like Rangasthalam and Mahanati have worked wonders for the business, there have been a handful if not more duds at the box office. But last Friday's two releases have once again proved that good content when done well will definitely find takers.

Adivi Sesha's Goodachari, a spy thriller hit the screens on August 3. The buzz around the film got stronger with the release of its various teaser videos. Directed by Sashi Kiran Tikka, the film also stars Prakashraj, Sobhita Dhulipala, Anish Kuruvilla and Vennela Kishore in pivotal roles. The well written story, the on-point execution and the effort to keep the spy as desi as possible, is probably why the film has opened to some amazing reviews.

It would be interesting to see if Adivi Sesha, who has written the story of the film, manages to change this into a franchise, as there are not many desi spy stories in Indian cinema.

Another film that hit the screens the same day as Goodachari was Chi La Sow. Just like Goodachari, the story of this film is penned by an actor. Rahul Ravindran also made his directorial debut with the film.

The events of the film are set in a single night. What starts of as a romantic comedy, turns into an emotional and complex story of relationships. Starring Sushanth and Ruhani Sharma in lead roles. Chi La Sow has also received a lot of praise. The audience has accepted this clean and different entertainer.
