After A Death In The Gunj, Konkona Sensharma is all set to don the hat of a director again, this time for a web show. It will be based on the life of Arati Das, popularly known as Miss Shefali, who was known as the Queen of Cabaret in Kolkata. The show will be set during the 1960s and the 1970s. The story will be interwoven with the Bengal political situation of that era.
In an interview with a leading daily, Konkona said, "The era of post-Partition and pre-liberalisation fascinated me. Since I am from Kolkata, I have been aware of the subject and her unique story. (In Das), we have a female protagonist who decided to live life on her own terms. That is right up my alley.”
On adding to this, the Omkara actor also said, "We are still developing the script and finalising the cast. I haven't met Arati but she is aware that we are working on this subject; the makers have taken the necessary rights for making the show. We plan to roll early next year."
For the unversed, Arati has featured in Satyajit Ray’s Shimabaddha and Pratitdwandi. She has appeared in stage plays such as Chowringhee, Ashlil, Samrat O Sundari and Shaheb Bibi Golam among others.
Produced by Zee Studios, the show is being developed and casting will begin soon.
On the work front, Konkona will be seen playing pivotal parts in Dolly Kitty Aur Who Chamakte Sitare and Pind Daan.
