It’s Showtime, Folks!

F.A.L.T.U. clicked, Game tanked… now all eyes on Thank You

World Cup mania has subsided, definitely working in favour of Vashu Bhagnani’s F.A.L.T.U. Although there were no expectations (till the week of its release) from the film, it did reasonably well at the box office. Since F.A.L.T.U. did well, and considering it was a comic film with lesser-known names, everyone in the trade is gung-ho about Thank You.

The film may not have opened well (compared to other Akshay Kumar-starrers) but it definitely picked up after the initial two shows. Some even aver that the movie will “hit the bull’s eye”. If these predictions come true, Akshay Kumar and Anees Bazmee would have scored a hat trick of successes after Singh Is Kingg and Welcome.

As for Game, after the initial promo, everyone in the trade felt the film would find little patronage. The collections bore out these predictions. Now tradewallahs believe this will further dampen the prospects of Dum Maaro Dum.

Though the film’s title track was an instant hit with the youth, the promos didn’t fetch positive feedback from the masses. Also, another song that was introduced recently on satellite channels was rejected outright. Making matters worse, the promotion of the film has been very dull. After weighing all the odds, tradewallahs are not too optimistic about this product. They point out that by the time the film hits the screen on April 22, the IPL would have gathered momentum and collections could easily be dented.

Last week we said and we’re saying it again this week, that there was uncertainty over the release date of Vikram Bhatt’s Haunted – 3D. Though it’s been announced that the film is expected to release on May 6, many in trade point out that there’s very little time left to promote the film.

Also the theatrical promos available on various sites have failed to enthuse. According to tradewallahs, Bhatt’s obsession with havelis and a possessed girl (Raaz and 1920) may hurt the film further. Judging by the trailer, he’s used the same elements in this film too. The only saving grace is that this film is in 3D.

The first look of Salman Khan’s next release Ready is finally out. Khan, who’s delivered two big hits in the recent past (Wanted and Dabangg) is a hot favourite among distributors and exhibitors but the look of Ready has met with a mixed response. The first look of the film suggests this is a feel-good film. Though Salman Khan is looking refreshing, there’s nothing in the poster to rave about.

So if the first look of Khan’s Ready met with a mixed response, not a single frame of his next release, Bodyguard, has been leaked or introduced to tradewallahs. Still, considering it will be Khan’s next actioner and an Eid release, everyone is optimistic.
The look and pictures of Ajay Devgn’s Singham are in circulation and are attracting positive feedback. Although two actioners from the hit jodi – Ajay Devgn and Rohit Shetty – (Zameen and Sunday) failed to hit the jackpot, everyone is optimistic that this one will make it BIG.

The same is being said of Karan Johar’s remake of Agneepath. Though leading man Hrithik Roshan’s look is not out, everyone is positive about this film.

Meanwhile, the trailer of Shah Rukh Khan’s Ra.One continues to make waves and expectations are only growing of this extravaganza. On the other hand, SRK’s look from Don 2 has been accepted and it is, indeed, one of the hottest projects of this year.
