Akshay Kumar-starrer Kesari, based on the Battle of Saragarhi, has been doing wonders at the box office since the day of its release. Even though the film opened in theatres post noon due to Holi, it became the highest day one grosser of 2019 by collecting Rs 21.06 crore. Since then the film has been churning out good numbers on all the four days of the weekend.
Among the releases of 2019, Kesari again stands at the number one position as far as the first weekend collections are concerned. The film has earned Rs 77.35 crore in its first weekend. Prior to this, the highest weekend grosser of the current year was Zoya Akhtar’s Gully Boy, starring Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt; it grossed Rs 66.39 crore. This makes Kesari’s collections 16.5 per cent higher than that of Gully Boy.
Kesari’s collections are the result of positive word-of-mouth which has been getting stronger every day and also its star value. Even today, during the festival of Rang Panchami (celebrated in Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh), the expectations from the film are high.
