It's said "Revenge is a dish that tastes better when served cold", in Mohit Suri's 'Malang', (the suspense-revenge-thriller) with Aditya Roy Kapur and Disha Patani on board, revenge gets stylishly hotter. Apart from Aditya and Disha, we have Anil Kapoor and Kunal Kemmu too playing an important role in the film. The story plot revolves around these four characters whose lives' gets influenced by each other.
During the Goa Trip, Advait (Aditya Roy Kapur), a young introvert guy, meets an alluringly gorgeous girl, Sara (Disha Patani), who is completely opposite to Advait. She's a carefree, happy go lucky girl residing in London. Sara who believes and wants to live her life in a fun way visits India for the first time and meets Advait. Both get attracted to each other and that leads to romance between the two. This is followed by a sudden trail of twists in which, five years later, two police officers Anjaney Agashe (Anil Kapoor) and Michael Rodrigues (Kunal Kemmu) are on a hunt to trap and catch Advait, who has set out to kill people on Christmas night. Will the cops be able the catch him? What twist comes in the life of Sara and Advait? Why an introvert Advait starts killing people? Is what to look for in the movie.
Talking about the direction and technicalities
The movie is directed by Mohit Suri, best known for his musically romantic Aashiqui 2 (2013), Ek Villian (2014) and suspensive thriller Murder 2 (2011), has again come up with a masterpiece in the form of 'Malang: unleash the madness', a dark-intriguing thriller. When, if a director can pull you into the story, make you care about a character, and if during the course of the film allows you to watch the character change in a very real and gradual way then he has delivered a truly great film and Mohit has done the same. The director very well introduces the audience to the characters who do the unpredictably believable job. Malang is not only intriguingly exciting but visually spectacular as well. The Cinematography of the movie is very lavishly worked on. The cinematographer chooses a wise and well-crafted angle to lure you in and hold your attention. The beauty of Goa is heavenly showcased in the movie. The theme frame of the movie is dark but equally colourfull as well. The sizzling hot romantic scenes and the savagely violent brutal killing are well depicted on screen. When it comes to thriller movies, background score plays a very important role. The background score of the movie will surely keep you hooked and make you feel all the thrilling nail-biting intensity of the story. Music by Ankit Tiwari, Asim Azhar, Ved Sharma, and The Fusion Project is swaggy and heart thumping. The title track "Malang" and "Chal Ghar Chalen" are the most loved ones and already hitting the Music-Chartbusters list.
The movie has a fast-paced screenplay, it does not allow the audience to get ahead of the story. Developments are unexpected and plausible scenarios affect action and reaction which are a true delight to encounter.
Throughout the movie, the director doesn't play it safe but takes really risky moves that definitely paid off in the end. Malang is directed with perfect pacing that smoothly shifts through each gear from one to full throttle. Very entertaining from start to finish with no gaps which is always good for a film that exceeds two hours in duration.
Although the film is great, but, it's not free of problems, we believe the dialogues could have been a little better.
Talking about the performances
In Malang, we see Aditya Roy Kapur completely in a different avatar. His extensive physical transformation is mind-blowing! His well-toned chiseled physic clearly narrates how hard he has worked for the film. He has acted brilliantly well to carry the impression as the compulsive killer. The transformation is outstanding. Disha Patani is oozingly hot and she looks extremely beautiful in each and every frame she is in. In terms of acting, she could have done a better job, but she is 10 on 10 in terms of hotness quotient. #SteaminglyHot!
Anil Kapoor plays a very interesting role of a Bad Cop. The 63-Year-Old star, Yes you read it right! The 63-year-old star, Anil Kapoor is defying time and all into the process of reverse aging in terms of his looks has delivered a powerful performance as Anjaney Agashe. The body language, the dialogue delivery aaaah!!! he can beat any youngster out there.
Kunal Kemmu is a surprise package in the movie! He is brilliant in terms of both acting as well as physical appearance. He carried the intense look impressively well throughout the movie with ease. The other supporting actors were also excellent in the little screen time that they each get to share.
Overall, 'Malang' is everything you would wish it to be. It's better than a regular thrill ride filled with equal moments of 'edge-of-your-seat action' and true emotion that spurs the entire cast. The biggest strong point is the script. It's the smart script that is well thought through. The film makes for a perfectly fun, exciting, and thoughtful experience.
Verdict: Definitely, a must-watch. Don't wait around for this one. All in all highly recommended!!!
