British director Asif Kapadia was at the 72nd edition of the Cannes Film Festival for the premiere of his documentary Diego Maradona. The legendary footballer was also expected at the screening but due to sudden shoulder surgery, he could not make it.
Kapadia, who also made his Cannes debut with The Warrior starring Irrfan Khan, is also considered one of the most bankable biographical documentary makers. His previous works Senna and Amy have won top honours at several award shows.
The 130-minute film Diego Maradona tracks the soccer star’s from the 1980s to the early 1990s. The documentary also offers a peek into his turbulent life, his fall from stardom and more.
